heat lightning.

It's one of my favorite things. Not sure why, but I love it. And in Florida, it's totally a summer phenomenon.

I saw it late two nights ago, driving to the grocery store for some last minute things. On the way there, I realized that I had to change all my radio pre-sets, as Tally stations aren't available 180 miles away. I also learned that there are "fun-in-the-sun" aisles in beach town grocery stores. Semi-cool and slightly interesting. It definitely caught my attention when I was trying to locate the cereal aisle and instead wound up staring at goggles, flippers, and floaties. And I didn't think any of those would go well with milk in the morning. But, you never know.

I used to think heat lightning was just lighting that never touched the ground, simply lightning in the sky. But it's actually lightning very far away, over 100 miles out, that can appear hazy over the horizon. Pretty cool, I think. Especially since lightning can be nerve-wrenching when associated with a bad storm. But as a kid, I knew heat lightning wasn't an imminent threat, just an interactive painting in the sky, a marvel of God's handiwork. In a simple and weird way, it's bright silence was and still is calmingly peaceful.

I drove back from the store on a back road with the windows down, jamming out, enjoying the pretty view. I love driving, but driving on back roads with heat lightning in the distance, made my late night adventure THAT much better. All while this little one was sleeping soundly in her new big girl crib.

And my camera usb has dropped it's 'heat lightning' pose of being far off in the distance...I finally found it. Hopefully, more recent pics sweet baby girl coming soon.
